Confront teacher burnout and promote healing with Healing Schools Project “Start the School Year with Healing” fundraiser.
Across the country, the teacher community has been hit by overwhelming rates of burnout, and school cultures that don’t support their well-being. As a result, teachers are leaving the profession at alarming rates–making the hard choice to leave the vocation they love, despite their passion for supporting students–so they can tend to their own healing. Studies show that teachers are twice as likely to experience depression and high levels of job-related stress compared to the general population, and 24% of teachers leave the profession or change schools after just four years, with Black teachers leaving at double that rate. Teacher turnover–which has only worsened throughout the COVID-19 pandemic–costs school districts millions, further threatens the teacher diversity gap, and leaves kids without the stability that is critical to their success in the classroom and beyond. As schools prepare for another year, Healing Schools Project is working to get ahead of the teacher retention issue by starting the school year with prioritizing their well-being.
